Lady Sharks Sweeps Polk State College in FCSAA State Championship

The Miami Dade College Volleyball team faced Polk State College this evening in the 2017 FCSAA Volleyball State Championship. The Lady Sharks shutout PSC 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, and 25-17). The Lady Sharks went undefeated during post play winning all four games. Out of 12 sets, the Lady Sharks only lost one (vs. Hillsborough CC). 

After the championship game, several players on the Lady Sharks' team received FCSAA honors. Players Rafaella Bonifacio, Sun Wenting, Massiel Matos, Camila Gomez Hernandez, and Tiziana Baumrukova were named to the 2017 FCSAA All-Tournament Team. Sophomore Massiel Matos was named Tournament's Most Outstanding Player. Head Coach Origenes "Kiko" Benoit was named the 2017 FCSAA Coach of the Year. 

Besides being named state champs, the Lady Sharks are also the 2017 District M Champions. Miami Dade is now 30-0 overall, 6-0 in conference play, and 4-0 in postseason play. The Lady Sharks will head to Hutchinson, KS to compete in the 2017 NJCAA National Volleyball Tournament.
