Lady Sharks Volleyball Remains Undefeated

The Miami Dade College Lady Sharks volleyball team hosted rival and conference opponent Broward College yesterday evening inside the Shark Tank. The Lady Sharks dominated in each set and defeated the Seahawks 3-0 (25-11, 25-15, and 25-10). With the win, the Lady Sharks improved their overall record to 17-0 and 2-0 in conference play.

Earlier this week MDC's  Massiel Matos was named player of the week after putting on a show this past weekend at the Hillsborough Community College Tournament. During the tournament she averaged 3.8 kills, 3.0 digs, 1.5 service aces, and 5.6 points per set (13 total sets). Alongside Matos was her teammate Thais De Castro Andrade who also shined. De Castro Andrade made the Region 8's 25-Dig Club with 28 digs versus Hillsborough Community College on Friday, September, 29 2017. In addition, teammate Tiziana Baumrukova was a nominee for the NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Volleyball Setter of the Week.

During the two day tournament at Hillsborough CC the Lady Sharks went 5-0. On Friday, September, 29 2017 the Lady Sharks faced the College of Central Florida (3-0) and Hillsborough Community College (3-1). On the following day the Lady Sharks went 6-0 in sets defeating the State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (3-0) and San Jacinto College (3-0).

This is the third week MDC Volleyball has had players selected or nominated for honors. During the week of Tuesday, September 5, 2017, players Matos, De Castro Andrade, and Baumrukova received honors. Matos was named POTW, De Castro Andrade was named Defensive POTW, and Baumrukova was named Setter of the Week. On Monday, September 25, 2017 player Camila Hernandez was named Defensive POTW and Baumrukova was once again named Setter of the Week.

More than halfway through the season the Lady Sharks continue to remain focused. Having faced a natural disaster (Hurricane Irma) that prevented the team from practicing or playing for two weeks the Lady Sharks seem unfazed by any team they face. In fact, the Lady Sharks are thriving; MDC is currently 54-8 in sets played.

Lady Sharks volleyball has been ranked #1 in the nation and the state of Florida since the first week of the NJCAA Div-1 volleyball season. The Lady Sharks next home game will be on Thursday, October 12, 2017 at 6pm. They will host Palm Beach State College on Sophomore Night.
