A weather delay at halftime couldn't cool off Miami Dade, as the Sharks exploded for seven unanswered goals in the second half to cruise past St. Thomas University, 7–0, on Monday evening.
The first 45 minutes were interrupted by heavy rain and lightning that forced officials to halt play, but once the skies cleared, Miami Dade came out firing on all cylinders. The offensive surge began in the 48th minute when Kyara Ormazabal broke the scoreless deadlock off a feed from Tessa Abreu, setting the tone for a dominant half.
Moments later, Julia Gurgel doubled the lead with a clinical finish, and Ormazabal struck again in the 54th minute for her brace. Abreu then added one of her own just over a minute later before Gurgel netted her second goal of the match to make it 5–0 before the 60-minute mark.
Late in the contest, Luna Matsuo capped off the onslaught with back-to-back goals in the 73rd and 74th minutes, assisted by Eva Cova and Kanchenjeet Kaur Nanua, respectively.
In total, the Sharks outshot St. Thomas 30–2, with 13 shots on goal. Miami Dade goalkeeper Ashley Fonseca recorded the clean sheet, stopping the only shot she faced.
Ormazabal and Gurgel led the way with two goals each, while Abreu and Matsuo also tallied multi-point performances. The victory caps off the regular season, as the Sharks now turn their attention to Eastern Florida, their opponent in the semifinals of the FCSAA Division I Women's Soccer Tournament.
