Miami Dade Powers Past St. Petersburg, 78-66
Coach Summons' squad secured a dominant 78-66 victory over St. Petersburg College, fueled by a strong second-half performance.
The Sharks came out strong, taking a 20-12 lead in the first quarter before facing a scoring slump in the second, where they managed just eight points. However, they turned up the intensity in the third, outscoring St. Petersburg 28-15 to regain control of the game.
Shameir Quimby led all scorers with 20 points, going 6-for-19 from the field and 8-for-14 from the free-throw line. Cleaira Peterson was a force on the boards, posting a double-double with 16 points and 16 rebounds. Jazmyne Bynum added 17 points, while Kiara Harris chipped in with 13, hitting three shots from beyond the arc.
Miami Dade controlled the glass, out-rebounding St. Petersburg 43-25, with Peterson leading the charge. The Sharks also capitalized on second-chance opportunities, securing 15 offensive rebounds.
For St. Petersburg, Leanna Pabst paced the Titans with 20 points on 9-of-15 shooting, while Celina Forine contributed 11 points and eight rebounds. Despite shooting a better percentage from the field (41.3% compared to MDC's 33.8%), St. Petersburg struggled from deep, hitting just 1-of-10 three-pointers.
With this win, Miami Dade moves to 17-8 on the year and clinches a spot in the 2025 FCSAA State Tournament.
