The Miami Dade Sharks women's basketball team secured a dominant 77-51 victory over Florida Southwestern State College in a historic game, as Head Coach Susan Summons celebrated her 700th career win.
The Sharks set the tone early, jumping to a commanding 27-10 lead in the first quarter and maintaining their momentum through the game. Miami Dade displayed balanced team play, with four starters scoring in double figures and an aggressive defense that forced 22 turnovers.
Shameir Quimby led the way for the Sharks with a double-double, scoring 20 points and grabbing 11 rebounds while dishing out 7 assists. Cleaira Peterson dominated the paint with a stellar performance, posting a game-high 26 points on 12-of-22 shooting and hauling in 17 rebounds. Jazmyne Bynum contributed 15 points, including three triples, while Kiara Harris added 8 points and 5 steals to spark the team defensively.
Miami Dade shot 40.5% from the field and outrebounded Florida Southwestern 47-45. Despite a quiet fourth quarter where they scored just 9 points, the Sharks' early lead proved insurmountable for the Buccaneers.
