Sharks lose Season Opener
The Miami Dade Sharks faced a tough matchup in their season opener, falling to South Georgia Technical College with a final score of 72-58. Despite a resilient fourth quarter, where they outscored South Georgia 18-10, the Sharks were unable to close the gap established early in the game.
In the first quarter, Miami Dade struggled offensively, scoring only 9 points to South Georgia's 27. Though they improved in the second quarter, bringing the halftime score to 39-25, the deficit proved too difficult to overcome. South Georgia maintained control in the third, pushing their lead further with a 23-point quarter.
Standout performances for Miami Dade included Cleaira Peterson, who dominated the boards and posted a double-double with 16 points and 15 rebounds. Shameir Quimby led the team in scoring with 18 points on efficient shooting (7-11 FG), while Jazmyne Bynum added 7 points and hit the Sharks' only three-pointer. Despite these efforts, turnovers (16 in total) hindered Miami Dade's momentum.
The Sharks start the 24-25 season with a loss but hope to bounce back tomorrow when they take on Tallahassee Community College.
