Miami Dade loses on the road to Florida Southwestern

The Miami Dade Sharks women's basketball team dropped a close conference match against the Florida Southwestern Buccaneers 44-39, Saturday afternoon. The Sharks drop to 3-14 while the Bucs move up to 10-8. 

The Bucs got off to a strong start in today's matchup getting off to a 10-3 run. Both offenses would go quiet from here until Carla Cencerrero hit a pair from the charity stripe to make the score 10-7. This would remain the score until the end of the first quarter. 

In the second quarter, Alarcon would assist Jamicia Davis on a three pointer to bring the score within one. With 6:52 left, Davis would step up to the line to give the Sharks the lead. The Sharks would keep the hot streak thanks to a layup by Quimby which gave the Sharks a 9 point lead. The Buccaneers would answer right back to cut the lead to 5 going into the second half.

Davis would continue to add her point total to start the third quarter and push the Sharks lead to 7. A pair of three pointers by Quimby and Davis pushed the lead to 13, two minutes into the second half. Both teams would go scoreless for the next two minutes until Kiana Wilson broke the seal with a free throw. A three pointer by Makenna Shaffer turned the tide for the Bucs. Following this three pointer, they would go on an 18-3 run to turn the ship around. 

The Sharks would find themselves down 5 with four minutes left to go. With a minute left to go, Genesis Zabaleta Alarcon would bring the Sharks within one but a layup by the Bucs Owona would push that back to three. Lisa Le Roy would put the finishing touches at the line as the Bucs took down the Sharks 44-39. 

The Sharks will look to bounce back when they take on Santa Fe on the road this upcoming Wednesday. The game is slated for 5:00 PM on January 31.
