The Miami Dade Sharks women's basketball team dropped a conference matchup against the Indian River State College Pioneers 60-51, Thursday evening. Miami Dade falls to 3-13, while the Pioneers move to 13-6.

The Sharks got off to a scorching hot start Thursday evening going on an 8-0 run. Indian River was able to bounce back to cut the 8-point lead in half before calling a media timeout. Following the timeout, Kamariya Simmons and JaMya Robinson would go on to trade baskets. Spaniard Carla Cencerrero would then hit a corner three pointer to extend the lead to seven. Indian River would push the throttle a bit to cut the lead down to 1 with 3:02 left in the quarter, but the Sharks would answer right back. Shameir Quimby would score 7 straight but the Pioneers would answer right back with a 6-0 run of their own to make the score 22-18 heading into the second.

Mo'Nique Joseph would get things going for the Pioneers in the second quarter with a pull up jumper to get Indian River closer to the Sharks mark. With 3:49 left, the Pioneers would finally knot things up at 28 thanks to a free throw by Elesi Simmons. Renae Brant would nail a three to put the Sharks ahead. Two free throws and a layup from Quimby would increase the Sharks lead to 7 with 34 seconds left in the half.

Both teams would come out cold in the second half as they went scoreless for the first 3 minutes until D'Yanna Maxey broke the seal for the Pioneers. Quimby would answer back on the other end with a layup of her own. With the score at 41-41 with a 1:07 remaining, Robinson would step up to the line for Indian River and hit both to take the lead. Queen Benjamin would tie the game back up at 43 heading into the 4th.

Brialle Washington started the 4th with a three pointer to finally put Indian River ahead in this matchup. One lead change was all that the Pioneers needed to run away with the game. They kept piling up point after point eventually increasing the lead to 9. The Sharks would go scoreless for two 2-minute stretches which proved to be the difference in tonight's matchup.

The Sharks will look to recover on the road this weekend when they take on the Buccaneers in Fort Myers. The game is slated for Saturday, January 27 at 2 PM.
