Quimby's career night powers the Sharks against the Falcons

The Miami Dade Sharks women's basketball team took down the Daytona State Falcons 77-66 Saturday afternoon. The Sharks improve to 3-10 while the Falcons drop to 10-6.

Quimby got her big afternoon started by drilling a jumper just forty seconds into the matchup. After a steal by Simmons, Miami Dade went up two baskets thanks to a layup by Hassan Radwan. The Falcons answered right back with a 7-0 run of their own finished off with a three pointer from sophomore guard Bella Weary. Following a media timeout, the Sharks were able to flip the switch and go on 12-0 run which featured shots from Simmons, Davis and Zabaleta Alarcon. Daytona State was able to end the quarter on a positive note due to Weary hitting another layup with 1:13 remaining in the first.

Farida Khaled Hassan Radwan kicked off the second quarter by drilling a three-pointer putting the Sharks up by 8. Daytona State then picked up the pace as the second quarter went along and were able to tie the game at 33 with 1:10 left on the clock. A layup by Quimby put the Sharks up by two but three straight free throws by the Falcons put the Sharks down one point to end the half.

Both teams began the third quarter in a stalemate, in what looked to be a defensive battle. Quimby continued her big night by scoring six straight points forcing Daytona State to call a timeout. This timeout proved to be the spark the Falcons needed, as they eventually found a way to take the lead 51-50. The Sharks proceeded to take the lead once again and never looked back.

The fourth quarter started with sharpshooter Iva Cholakoska hitting a deep three. Quimby continued to put the finishing touches in what was a career night for her, and the Sharks didn't surrender the lead for the rest of the game. She finished with a team high 28 points on 50% shooting from the field.

The Sharks will look to stay in the win column when they take on St. Petersburg College next Wednesday. The game is slated for Wednesday, January 17 at 5 PM.
