Sharks Come Up Short Again in Game 2 Loss to Eastern Florida
In the second half of their Saturday doubleheader, Miami Dade once again mounted a late-game rally, but it wasn't enough to overcome Eastern Florida, falling 5-3 to drop both games of the twin bill.
Eastern Florida struck first in the second inning with an RBI single from Emma George, then added another in the fourth on George's RBI double. The Titans opened up the lead in the fifth with a three-run burst, featuring an RBI single from Ashley Corazzini and a clutch two-run double by Jessica Merk, making it 5-0.
Miami Dade finally got on the board in the sixth when Gabriela Trinoski ripped a double to score Gabriela Luz. The Sharks made things interesting in the seventh — Amanda Handa delivered an RBI single, and Dana Piri followed with an infield RBI hit to trim the deficit to two. But with the tying runs on base, Eastern Florida turned to Game 1 winner Avery Velazquez, who closed the door to seal the sweep.
Luci Walters picked up the win for the Titans, tossing 6.2 innings while allowing three runs on four hits. Velazquez got the final out for the save. For Miami Dade, Aimi Tohara took the loss after giving up five earned runs over 5.1 innings.
Miami Dade managed just five hits, with Handa and Luz each scoring and reaching base twice. The Sharks left eight runners on base and couldn't fully capitalize on their late-inning opportunities.
