Sharks Secure 4-1 Victory Over Daytona State Behind Amarilla’s Strong Performance
Miami Dade claimed a 4-1 win over conference rival Daytona State College on Friday, powered by a dominant outing from pitcher Carina Amarilla and timely offensive execution.
Amarilla was lights out in the circle, tossing a complete game while allowing just one unearned run on six hits, striking out 10, and walking only one. She efficiently worked through 29 batters, throwing 114 pitches with 77 strikes.
After both teams went scoreless through two innings, Daytona State struck first in the top of the third when Alexa Edmands reached and later scored on an error, giving the Falcons a brief 1-0 lead.
Miami Dade responded quickly in the bottom half, capitalizing on a passed ball that allowed Gabriela Luz to cross home plate and tie the game at 1-1.
The Sharks took control in the fifth inning. Ty Marie Cervantes delivered the go-ahead RBI single to score Caroline Mito, putting MDC ahead 2-1. A defensive miscue by Daytona State then extended the lead, allowing Gabriela Trinoski and Cervantes to score, making it 4-1.
That was all the cushion Amarilla needed, as she shut down the Falcons' offense the rest of the way.
Cervantes led the Sharks offensively, going 1-for-1 with an RBI, a run scored, and two stolen bases. Luz also contributed, finishing 2-for-3 at the plate.
Miami Dade looks to build on this win as they continue conference play next week.
