Miami Dade Falls in Game 1 of Doubleheader Against FSW
The Miami Dade College Sharks struggled to generate offense in Game 1 of their doubleheader against Florida Southwestern State College, falling 3-0 to the undefeated Buccaneers.
Despite a strong pitching effort from Carina Amarilla, who went six innings while allowing just six hits and three earned runs, the Sharks' bats were held in check by FSW ace Leah Meyer. Meyer improved to 8-0 on the season with a complete-game shutout, striking out seven while scattering seven hits.
FSW opened the scoring in the first inning with an RBI double from Virginia Mambelli, bringing home Skylar Brennan. Mambelli struck again in the third, driving in another run with a single down the left-field line to make it 2-0. The Buccaneers added an insurance run in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Brooklyn Scott, bringing in Lizzy Kwakernaak.
Offensively, the Sharks managed seven hits but couldn't capitalize with runners on base. Shortstop Caroline Mito led the team with a 2-for-3 performance, including a double. Maria Valls Raya also contributed with two hits, while Maria Julia Pedroso, Gabriela Luz, and Ebba Sofia Eriksson each added one. However, Miami Dade couldn't string together enough offense to break through against Meyer's dominance.
The Sharks look to bounce back in the second game of the doubleheader as they aim to hand FSW their first loss of the season.
