Sharks Rally Late to Defeat Seminole State 5-3
The Miami Dade Sharks secured a hard-fought 5-3 victory over Seminole State College of Florida, thanks to a late-game surge in extra innings.
The Sharks trailed early as Seminole State took a 1-0 lead in the first inning with an RBI single from Mackenzie Pitzer. Miami Dade responded in the fourth when Amanda Handa drove in Caroline Mito to tie the game at 1-1.
Seminole State regained the lead in the fifth with a solo home run from Grace Thomas and an RBI single by Izabell LaRoche, putting the Raiders up 3-1. However, Miami Dade answered in the sixth when Dana Piri launched a two-run home run to center field, scoring Maria Julia Pedroso and knotting the game at 3-3.
With the game tied heading into extra innings, Miami Dade capitalized in the eighth. Mito crushed a solo home run to right field to give the Sharks their first lead of the night. Moments later, a defensive miscue by Seminole State allowed Piri to score, extending the lead to 5-3.
Pitcher Carina Amarilla delivered a clutch performance, going the full eight innings while allowing just six hits and striking out four to earn the win.
Mito and Piri led Miami Dade's offense, each recording two hits, while Piri added two RBIs.
