Miami Dade Outlasts Eastern Florida in 10-Inning Thriller, 5-3
In a marathon showdown, Miami Dade edged Eastern Florida State College 5-3 in extra innings, thanks to clutch hitting and a stellar pitching performance from Carina Amarilla.
After falling behind 2-0 in the third, the Sharks clawed back with a run in the fourth when Ebba Sofia Eriksson's sacrifice fly brought home Dana Piri. Miami Dade then tied the game in the sixth, as Maria Julia Pedroso delivered a key RBI single to score Piri once again.
With the game locked at 2-2 through nine innings, the Sharks took control in the 10th. Gabriela Luz grounded out to bring in Caroline Mito for the go-ahead run before Eriksson came through with a two-run double, plating Mayah Bostic and Piri for a 5-2 advantage.
Amarilla was dominant in the circle, going the distance with 10 innings of work, allowing just four hits and no earned runs while striking out eight.
The Sharks will look to stay undefeated as they take on the Titans in the second game of the doubleheader.
