Sharks Overpower Spoon River with Late-Game Surge in 12-4 Victory
The Miami Dade Sharks dominated at the plate with an explosive sixth inning, defeating Spoon River College 12-4. The Sharks pounded out 18 hits and showcased their offensive depth, with multiple players contributing key hits and RBIs.
Spoon River struck first, scoring twice in the opening inning on a two-run double by Kate Oyler. Miami Dade answered with a run in the bottom half as Ty Marie Cervantes doubled home Caroline Mito. Spoon River extended its lead to 3-1 in the second, but from there, it was all Miami Dade.
The Sharks erupted in the third inning, tying the game with a triple from Dana Piri that scored Gabriela Luz. Ebba Sofia Eriksson followed with a triple of her own, bringing home Piri, and Maria Julia Pedroso capped off the rally with an RBI single to put Miami Dade ahead 4-3.
Miami Dade tacked on a run in the fourth when Luz delivered an RBI single, and Mito added another in the fifth with an RBI grounder.
Holding a 6-4 lead heading into the sixth, Miami Dade put the game out of reach with a six-run explosion. Piri drove in two runs with a single, Pedroso smashed a two-run double, and Carmela Smith and Amanda Handa each added RBI doubles to secure the commanding victory.
Aimi Tohara was solid on the mound for Miami Dade, tossing six innings while allowing four runs (three earned) on seven hits with two strikeouts.
Leading the offensive charge, Pedroso went 4-for-4 with three RBIs, while Eriksson, Piri, and Mito each had multi-hit games.
With this win, Miami Dade continues their impressive start to the year moving to 10-0 before the start of conference play.
