Sharks Dominate Shelton State in 10-2 Victory
The Miami Dade Sharks put together a dominant performance to defeat Shelton State Community College 10-2, powered by a 14-hit offensive explosion and a stellar outing from pitcher Carina Amarilla.
Miami Dade struck early, scoring in the first inning on an RBI groundout by Angelica Castro. Shelton State responded in the bottom half, tying the game 1-1 on a Miami Dade fielding error. However, the Sharks quickly regained control with a four-run second inning, capitalizing on multiple Shelton State miscues and clutch hitting from Caroline Mito and Castro.
Mito had a standout performance, going 3-for-5 with a triple and four RBIs, including a bases-clearing three-run triple in the seventh inning that sealed the win. Maria Valls Raya also had a strong game, tallying two hits and two RBIs, while Castro added two hits and two RBIs of her own.
On the mound, Amarilla was dominant, tossing a complete game while allowing just three hits and one earned run. She struck out four and walked only one in the victory.
The Sharks added insurance runs in the third and seventh innings, putting the game out of reach. Their aggressive baserunning, led by Carmela Smith's three stolen bases, kept the pressure on Shelton State's defense all night.
With this convincing win, the Sharks move to 3-0 on the year and look to close out their weekend when they take on Heartland Community College later on today.
