Softball Kicks Off Season with 6-2 win
The Miami Dade Sharks powered past Southern Union State Community College with a strong offensive performance, clinching a 6-2 win behind a dominant pitching display from Carina Amarilla.
The Sharks struck first in the opening inning when Caroline Mito capitalized on a wild pitch to score. Southern Union responded in the second, tying the game at 1-1 on an RBI single. However, Miami Dade quickly regained control in the bottom half of the inning as Maria Valls Raya delivered a clutch two-run double, bringing home Giada Acanfora and Dana Piri to make it 3-1.
In the third, Amanda Handa and Ty Marie Cervantes extended the lead with RBI singles, pushing the score to 5-2. Mito later added an RBI single in the fourth, securing the final tally at 6-2.
Amarilla was stellar in the circle, throwing a complete game, allowing just four hits and two unearned runs while striking out four and issuing no walks.
Mito led the offense with two hits, an RBI, and a stolen base, while Piri contributed two hits and two runs. Valls Raya's two RBIs were crucial in setting the tone for the Sharks.
With this win, the Sharks start the 2025 season in the win column.
