Sharks fall 5-3 against the Manatees

The Miami Dade Sharks softball team lost a tight matchup against the State College of Florida Manatees 5-3. The Sharks are now 18-28 on the year with the loss.  

The Manatees opened the scoring in the first as the Sharks traded 2 for 1 after Ryleigh Bennett hit into a double play. They then extended their early lead with two runs in the top of the third thanks to RBI doubles by Haley Rosenbaum and Alissa Kessler.

The Sharks would get on the board after Alexis Ortega single to center field aloowing Jimena Kunigami to score. 

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Kunigami doubled to right field bringing in fellow sophomore Maya Wall. An inning later, Atavya Fowler singled, which helped Miami Dade tie the game at three in the bottom of the sixth.

In the top of the seventh, State College of Florida broke up the tie when an error allowed one run to score. Then a sacrifice fly by Bennett followed to extend the lead to 5-3. 

Carina Amarilla took the loss for the Miami Dade Sharks in this one. Carina went seven innings, allowing five runs, two earned on six hits, striking out five and walking four.

Miami Dade will look to bounce back in Game 2 of their doubleheader at 3 PM.
