Sharks fall to the Patriots

The Miami Dade Sharks softball team fell to the College of Central Florida Patriots 2-1 in Game 1 of their doubleheader Saturday afternoon. The Sharks fall to 18-26 on the year with the loss.

In the top of the first inning, Alexis Ortega would single on an 0-2 count to put the Sharks up 1-0 in the early going. Jimena Kunigami would score on the play. The Patriots were able to tie the ballgame back up in the bottom half of the first after a homerun to right field by Hailey Scott. 

After some runs in the first inning, both pitchers settled down as Haley Guffey would go seven innings for Central Florida, allowing just one earned run while striking out six batters. Carina Amarilla would allow two earned, while tossing six innings and striking out twelve.

Scott would once again deliver for the Patriots as she would homer in the bottom of the sixth inning to give them a 2-1 lead, putting the Patriots just three outs away from taking Game 1 from the Sharks/

Miami Dade would put up a fight in the seventh inning but a groundout by Ty Marie Cervantes would end the ballgame.

The Sharks will look to bounce back in Game 2 at 5 PM.
