CARINA'S NO NO

The Miami Dade Sharks softball team defeated the Seminole State College Raiders 7-0 on Saturday afternoon. The Sharks move up to 16-24 on the year with the victory.

Game 1 of the scheduled doubleheader was a perfect example of what the Sharks softball team could be at their peak. A team which features stellar pitching and a tough lineup to navigate.

The Sharks were able to strike first in the bottom of the second inning after Alexis Ortega hit an RBI double, followed by an RBI single from Atavya Fowler.

In the bottom of the sixth, Ty Marie Cervantes hit a frozen rope homerun over the left field fence to give her her second long ball of the year. The Sharks would continue to add in the sixth after Acanfora came in and drove in Thomason. Fowler would then hit a sac fly to deep center to bring in Ortega. Kiana Kadena would ultimately make the score 7-0 with a double to center field allowing Piri Gallegos to score.

On the mound for Miami Dade was Carina Amarilla who threw her first career no hitter. Amarilla had a perfect game going until the top of the seventh inning where she walked the leadoff hitter but was able to settle down to complete the no-no. She would strike out three in her stellar performance.

The Sharks will look to stay in the win column when they take on the Raiders in the second leg of the back to back at 2:00 PM.
