On Wednesday April 10, Alexis Ortega and Jaiden Tretter, two members of the Miami Dade softball received awards during Miami Dade's 55th Annual Academic Awards.

Tretter, a freshman out of Minnesota, is enjoying a stellar freshman season where she's slashing .280/ .357/.440 with 3 homeruns and 3 stolen bases. Jaiden has been as solid as they come not only on the field but in the classroom where she earned the Academic Award for Business Administration under MDC's School of Business. 

Ortega, a sophomore from nearby the Cutler Bay, has been the Sharks Designated Player throughout the season and an effective one at that. Ortega's slashline this year of .276/ .350/.457 has been one of the best for the Miami Dade lineup all year, hitting two homeruns and bringing in 24 runs so far. Alexis was handed the All Academic Student Athlete Award on Wednesday.
