Sharks defeat the Eagles in offensive showdown

The Miami Dade Sharks softball team took down the Polk State Eagles 18-10, Tuesday afternoon. Miami Dade now improves to 12-21 on the year and 10-15 in conference play. 

The Eagles got on the board early in this one after Hudson singled to left field putting Miami Dade down 1-0. The Sharks then tied things up in the top of the second thanks to an error by Polk State.

Polk was able to grab a 4-1 lead in the fourth inning after a series of hits but the Sharks bounced back with a 10 run 5th inning.

Ty Marie Cervantes started things off with a single to right field, followed by a double by Gabriela Luz which brought in two runs. Dominican native Lissett Sosa was then hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. 

Designated Player Alexis Ortega then joined the party with a double down the left field line which made the score 8-4 in favor of the Sharks. Jaiden Tretter then hit a sac fly to center field to bring in Ortega. The final two runs of the inning would comeon a single to left field by Gessenia Hernandez.

Miami Dade would then notch another 5 runs in the sixth inning thanks to Cervantes, Luz and Hernandez once again.

The Polk State Eagles would make an effort to come back late in the ball game but Miami Dade would add two insurance runs.

Aimi Tohara would get the start in the circle, tossing 4.2 innings allowing 8 hits and 4 earned runs. Beatrice Nannetti would come in relief and earn the victory as she tossed 1.2 innings only allowing 2 earned runs while striking out 1. 

The Sharks will look to stay in the win column when they take on St. Petersburg College on Friday. The games are slated for 12 PM and 2 PM.
