Sharks win Game 1 against Polk State College

The Miami Dade Sharks softball team defeated the Polk State College Eagles 4-2 in Game 1 of their doubleheader Tuesday afternoon. The Sharks move to 11-21 on the season.

The Sharks struck first after an error by Polk State that allowed Ty Marie Cervantes to come in and score. 

The Eagles then answered back in the bottom of the fourth, tying the score at 1-1 after a single by Nayeli Hernandez.

In the top of the sixth, Gabriela Luz gave the Sharks a 2-1 lead after she singled up the middle. In the following inning, Kiana Kadena singled to right field to give Miami Dade a 2 run cushion.

Jillian Hudson would cut the Sharks lead to one after she hit a scorching double to left field. The Sharks DP, Alexis Ortega, would get the run back for the Sharks in the bottom of the seventh when she drove in Jaiden Tretter.

Carina Amarilla got the start for Miami Dade as she went 5.2 innings, allowing 3 hits and 2 runs while striking out 5 Eagles. She would earn the win. Lais Ihy would come in relief and earn the save while tossing 1 and a third innings, allowing 1 hit and 1 walk.

The Sharks will look to win Game 2 of the series, which starts at 4 PM in Winter Haven, FL.
