Big game from Luz powers the Sharks past the Patriots

The Miami Dade Sharks softball team beat the Patriots 5-3 in Game 1 of their doubleheader on Sunday afternoon. The Sharks are now 10-18 on the year.

College of Central Florida got things started after Zoe Riley hit a solo shot to dead center, making the score 1-0.

Miami Dade jumped back in front after Gabriela Luz singled, driving in two runs. The Patriots then traded 2 outs for a run allowing the Sharks to go up 3-1.

Dana Ximena Piri Gallegos extended the lead after she hit a hard groundball to center field. Luz then plated another one after slapping one to left field, making the score 5-1.

The last second effort by the Patriots would not be enough as Carina Amarilla's pitching was able to hold them down.

Amarilla would toss all seven innings, striking out three and walking two while surrendering six hits.

Miami Dade will look to win the second game of the doubleheader when they take on College of Central Florida shortly.
