Sharks softball wins season opener against Lurleen B. Wallace

The Miami Dade Sharks Softball team kicked off the 2024 season with a win against Lurleen B. Wallace Community College. Miami Dade moves to 1-0 with the victory. 

Freshman Aimi Tohara earned the win in this one, tossing a complete game. She would allow three hits and one run over 7 innings while striking out 4 and walking 3. 

Miami Dade would get on the board first in this one as the Saints would trade 2 outs for a run. Atavya Fowler would score the run for the Sharks to make the score 1-0.

In the top of the fifth, the Sharks would score once again thanks to a sac fly by Fowler. Two innings later, Kiana Kadena would put the finishing touches as she singled to right field driving in Arianna Thomason.

The Sharks will look to follow up the strong start as they take on Lake Land College in the second leg of a doubleheader.
