Daytona spoils Sophomore Night for the Sharks

On sophomore night, Daytona State College dashed Miami Dade College's hopes for a celebratory send-off, defeating the Sharks 3-1 in a match that highlighted Daytona's dominance.

Daytona struck early, with Hector Moreno opening the scoring at 24:14 off an assist from Kayoum M'Bamba, giving Daytona a 1-0 lead. Eight minutes later, Lance Talley extended the lead with a goal at 32:53, leaving Miami Dade reeling at halftime down 2-0. The second half saw M'Bamba himself score an unassisted goal at 68:42, pushing the lead to 3-0.

The Sharks struggled offensively throughout the match, managing only three shots, two of which were on target. Daytona's defense, led by goalkeeper Matthew McCall, held strong, conceding only in the dying seconds of the match when Alejandro Cumplido netted an unassisted goal at in the last minute  for Miami Dade, salvaging some pride but too late to alter the outcome.

Miami Dade's goalkeeper, Samuel Cavo, faced six shots and saved none, while Daytona's McCall had one crucial save to deny the Sharks' few chances. Daytona's tactical discipline was evident throughout the match, with only four yellow cards showing some of the intensity on both sides.

The Sharks now take a few days as they await the winner of Eastern Florida State College and Daytona State College to see who they will face in the FCSAA State Tournament Championship Match.
