Sharks lose by 1 to Polk State College

The Miami Dade Sharks lost a tight one against Polk State College 63-62 Wednesday night. The Sharks fall to 13-10 while Polk State moves to 12-11.

The Sharks were able to get off and running in this one going on a 9-2 run topped off by a bucket from Alaaeddine Boutayeb. A layup by Polk State's Moses Gordon was able to stop the early Shark attack. Polk then went on a run to tie the game up at 14-14 with 10:55 remaining in the first half. Miami Dade would then go on a 12-1 run thanks to a balanced attack from their offense. Jamaal Morris, Jakobe Strozier and Boutayeb would each score buckets on this run. The Eagles would claw their way back in the game to tie it back up at 32 with 2:10 remaining. A layup by Dominick Nelson would give the Eagles the lead for the first time since the opening mark of the game. A successful trip to the free throw line for Caleb Hannah would tie it back up for the Sharks to close out the first half.

Both teams would go back and forth to start the second half with the Sharks taking the lead with 9:16 remaining. Polk State would answer back in a big way to take control for the rest of the game. A layup from Dominick Nelson would tie it up for the Eagles and back-to-back drives to the basket from Ty Owens would give the Eagles a 56-52 lead. Polk would extend their lead to 7 but the Sharks would draw closer as time winded down. Two free throws by Latimer would tie it up but the Eagles would have one last chance to score. Polk State's Nelson would drive to his left and pull up for a step back jumper with less than a second remaining and draw contact. He was awarded two free throws. He would hit the first before intentionally missing the second shot from the line.

Miami Dade will look to get back on track this Saturday when they go on the road to take on Indian River State College. The game is slated for February 10 at 4:00 PM.
