Sharks win an overtime thriller against Hillsborough Community College

The Sharks were able to pull off an overtime thriller Saturday night against Hillsborough Community College where they won 71-69. The Sharks move to 13-9 while the Hawks drop to 14-7.

 

Today's matchup between the Hawks and the Sharks started as an even battle as both teams would be knotted up at 9 just five minutes into the match. A layup by Dominic Gooden would make it 11-9 but Lancaster would answer back to tie it up once again. After a steal and a layup by Jamaal Morris, Miami Dade would jump out to a 5-point lead. With 2:06 remaining in the first half, Shawn Congleton Jr hit a three pointer that put Hillsborough ahead. The Hawks would extend the lead to six going into the second half.

 

Miami Dade would start the second half on a 10-4 run which would tie the game at 40. With 3 minutes remaining in the half, the Sharks would find themselves down 5 and with their backs against the wall. Lluberes would go ahead and hit two huge threes with one of them tying the game with 30 seconds left in the match. Dominic Gooden would have a chance to end the game at the buzzer but missed from deep.

 

In overtime, the Sharks would take the first bite thanks to Caleb Hannah but Gooden would answer on the other end to tie it up just 7 seconds later. Hannah would again put the Sharks ahead with 1:53 left in overtime. Congleton Jr would tie the game up with 37 seconds left on the clock. Hannah would seal a terrific overtime period with 2 more free throws which was the difference in tonight's game.

 

Miami Dade will look to claim their third victory in a row when they take on the Polk State Eagles next Wednesday. The game is slated for Wednesda, February 7 at 7:30 PM.
