Miami Dade falls on the road to the Florida Southwestern Buccaneers

The Miami Dade Sharks men's basketball team lost a conference matchup against the Florida Southwestern Buccaneers 82-61, Saturday afternoon. The Sharks are now 11-9 while the Buccaneers move to 16-4.

The Buccaneers would get off to a hot start in this matchup going on a 7-2 run with Miami Dade's two points coming from Caleb Hannah. Following a media timeout by Miami Dade, Boutayeb would cut the deficit down to 2 points but Florida Southwestern responded in a big way. They would go on an 11-0 run that forced another timeout from Miami Dade. They would keep the momentum going in the first half as they pulled away by 20 with 4:27 remaining. Boutayeb would score 4 straight points, but AJ Hopkins would answer on the other end with a deep ball of his own. Sophomore John Latimer would hit a layup before time expired in the first half but Florida Southwestern would remain up 17.

Jaeshon Thomas got things started for the Bucs in the second half with a jumper to extend the lead to 19. The Buccaneers would keep the foot on the gas and keep this lead for the rest of the game. With 6:07 remaining, they would take the biggest lead of the game at 27. Unfortunately, the lead would be too big to overcome as the Sharks would lose this conference matchup.

The Sharks will look to bounce back when they take on Santa Fe on the road this upcoming Wednesday. The game is slated for 7:00 PM on January 31.
