Lluberes pours in 19 as the Sharks take down Indian River 94-91

A well-rounded effort by the Sharks which featured six different players reaching double figures was just enough to take down the Pioneers at home Wednesday evening. The Sharks improve to 9-6 while the Pioneers drop to 13-2.

The Sharks got the party started with a two-handed flush by Caleb Hannah, but Mostapha El Moutaouakkil made his presence known early by driving to the rack and finishing a tough layup through contact. Both teams would go back and forth for the next few minutes until a layup by big man Alaaeddine Boutayeb and a three pointer by Lluberes made the score 14-10. The teams fought evenly throughout the first half exchanging blows, in a game that featured twenty lead changes. With the score knotted up at 38-38, Kyle Brown and Shane Lancaster led their respective teams on runs which resulted in the score being 43-43 at the end of the first half.

Miami Dade got the second half rolling by going on a 9-2 run, but the Pioneers answered back with 7 straight points to tie it up once again at 52. The teams would continue to stay close throughout the battle until a three pointer by Caleb Hannah put the Sharks up by three. The Pioneers then eventually took the lead but that did not last for long as Jakobe Strozier hit a clutch jumper to put the Sharks up. El Moutaouakkil would claw the Pioneers back into the game, but the Sharks made a collective effort to keep the game within distance. With two minutes left on the clock, the Jamaal Morris was able to cause a turnover and finish the layup on the other end to put Miami Dade up by three. The Pioneers had a chance to tie up the ball game but a missed three by Woodard as time expired was the nail in the coffin for them.

The Sharks will look to keep on rolling this weekend as they take on the Falcons from Daytona State. The game is slated for Saturday, January 13 at 4:00 PM.
