Sharks claim their first win back from Christmas break.

The Miami Dade Men's Basketball team defeated Southern Union State College yesterday 91-78 claiming their first win back from Christmas break and finishing out their non conference schedule. 

The Sharks came out blazing as they took an 11-2 lead early in the 1st half. But after a Southern Union timeout, the Bison roared back with a 10-0 run of their own taking a one point lead half way through the 1st half. 

Heading into halftime both teams stayed deadlocked until two free throws from Freshman Caleb Hannah gave the Sharks a 2 point halftime lead 30-28. 

The 2nd half mirrored the ending of the first with both teams seesawing back and forth. This included 6 lead changes, and Southern Union taking a five point lead with 11 minutes to play. 

A 15-3 run by the Sharks gave them a late 7 point lead with Sophomore Shane Lancaster connecting on three, 3 point baskets (12 pts) and Sophomore Esteban Llubares chipping in with two 3's of his own (13 pts) during the surge. 

The Sharks never looked back and secured the win. 

Alaaeddine Boutayeb finished with 13 pts, 7 rebounds and 5 blocks. John Latimer lead all scorers with 18 pts, 6 rebounds, 2 steals and was excellent throughout the game. Caleb Hannah finished with 9 pts and 3 rebounds. 

Miami Dade completed their non conference schedule 8-5 and open up Citrus Conference play in Saturday vs Polk State College in Winter Haven, FL. The game is slated for 2:00 pm.
