Miami Dade Explodes for 17 Runs in Dominant Win Over Daytona State
The Miami Dade Sharkscame out swinging and never looked back, overpowering Daytona State College 17-5 in a five-inning offensive showcase to open their season with a statement win.
The Sharks wasted no time getting on the board, erupting for seven runs in the first inning, highlighted by a two-run homer from Michael Petite and a bases-clearing double from Jovan Swasey. The early outburst set the tone as Miami Dade plated runs in every inning but the sixth.
Cian Copeland starred at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with a double, a three-run homer, four RBIs, and three runs scored. Swasey also collected four RBIs, while Willy Mendez went 3-for-3 with a double and two driven in. The Sharks' lineup combined for 14 hits, including three doubles and three home runs.
On the mound, Enrique Sierra went the distance in the shortened five-inning game, allowing 11 hits and five runs while striking out three. His lone rough patch came in the bottom of the fifth, when Jake Tompkins launched a grand slam for the Falcons, but the damage was far too late to threaten Miami Dade's massive lead.
Defensively, both teams committed one error, but the offensive firepower from the Sharks proved to be the difference.
