SHARKS WALK IT OFF!
In a game filled with fireworks from start to finish, Miami Dade delivered when it mattered most, walking it off in the bottom of the ninth to take down United International College, 10-9, on Tuesday afternoon.
With the score tied at 9 heading into the bottom of the ninth, Michael Petite reached base and later came around to score on a sharp single up the middle by Talan Beckford, sending the Sharks into celebration and securing the one-run win.
Beckford was instrumental in the victory, going 3-for-5 with 2 RBIs, including the game-winner. Santiago Carriles-Alvarado had a breakout day at the plate, finishing 3-for-4 with 3 RBIs and a two-run homer in the fifth inning that helped swing momentum back in MDC's favor. Jendy Gonzalez also went deep, driving in two runs with a shot to left in the fourth.
The Sharks plated runs in six different innings and tallied 13 hits as an offense. Michael Petite crossed the plate three times, while Cian Copeland and Matthew Say added to the scoring with solid contributions.
On the mound, it was a team effort with four different arms seeing action. Kevin Clemente earned the win, tossing 1.1 innings of relief and holding UIC to one unearned run in the top of the ninth to keep the game tied. Starter Andy Mesa struck out six over 4.1 innings in a gritty performance.
Despite three defensive errors, the Sharks battled through adversity and showed resilience late. The pitching staff combined for 12 strikeouts and limited UIC to just three runs over the final four innings.
