Miami Dade Overpowers St. Petersburg College with Late-Game Surge
The Miami Dade College Sharks used a dominant sixth inning to power past St. Petersburg College, securing an 11-4 victory.
St. Petersburg jumped out to an early lead, scoring twice in the first inning and adding another in the third, capitalizing on Miami Dade's defensive miscues. However, the Sharks responded in the second inning, tying the game at 2-2 thanks to a defensive error and a clutch RBI single from Jendy Gonzalez.
After falling behind again in the third, Miami Dade took control in the fourth when David Zamora delivered a two-RBI single to center, giving the Sharks a 4-3 lead. A sacrifice fly from Willy Mendez in the fifth extended the advantage.
The decisive moment came in the sixth inning when Miami Dade exploded for six runs. A passed ball brought in a run, followed by a two-run single from Cian Copeland. Michael Petite then crushed a two-run homer to center field, and Santiago Carriles-Alvarado capped off the rally with an RBI double, putting the game out of reach.
On the mound, Jordan Vargas picked up the win, allowing just two earned runs over 3.2 innings. Jack Garvey came in to shut the door, striking out four over 3.1 innings while allowing just one unearned run.
With the victory, Miami Dade improves to 16-15 (8-9 in conference play), while St. Petersburg falls to 3-28 (1-16). The Sharks will look to keep their momentum going in their next matchup.
