Miami Dade Sharks Fall to Eastern Florida , 2-1
The Miami Dade Sharks suffered their second loss of the season, falling 2-1 to the Eastern Florida State College Titans in a tightly contested game dominated by strong pitching performances.
The Sharks struck first in the fifth inning, with Matt Thorsen scoring on a balk after William Polanco advanced to third. Despite taking the lead, Miami Dade couldn't capitalize further, leaving the Titans within striking distance.
In the sixth inning, the Titans mounted their comeback. Jackson Wargo and Gustavo Mendez both scored to give Eastern Florida a 2-1 lead. The tying run came on Ryan Cerrone's sacrifice fly, while Mendez capitalized on a wild pitch to put the Titans ahead.
Miami Dade's pitching staff had an impressive outing, holding the Titans to just two hits. Luis Rodriguez was dominant in his three innings, striking out seven without allowing a hit. Gabriel Cruz, who was tagged with the loss, surrendered both runs despite fanning six batters in two innings. Jose Villegas closed the game with two solid innings, giving up one hit and striking out three.
Eastern Florida's bullpen was the difference-maker, with Josh Lanum earning the win in relief and Houston Wills securing the save. The Titans' pitching trio allowed just four hits, with Nathan Hook striking out five in his four innings of work.
The Sharks managed four hits on the day, including a double by Thomas White, but struggled to generate offense in the late innings. Defensive miscues also proved costly, as Miami Dade committed two errors.
With the loss, the Sharks move to 0-2 on the season.
