The name Origenes “Kiko” Benoit has become synonymous with success in the world of women’s college volleyball.

In 17 years as MDC’s coach, Benoit has led the Sharks to 14 state titles and two national championships. The Sharks have also finished second nationally five times during Benoit’s tenure.

Benoit has been named the Southern Conference Coach of the Year 13 times and State Coach of the Year 13 times. In 2005, 2009, 2014, 2017 and 2018, he was named AVCA Northeast/Southeast Region Coach of the Year. 

He was also named AVCA National Coach of the Year in 2017. 

Benoit has helped numerous former MDC players go on to excel at Division I universities as well as in professional volleyball all over Europe and Latin America. 

Prior to becoming MDC’s head coach, he served 10 years as a Sharks assistant. During that span, MDC compiled a 441-85 record and won four national titles. The program also finished second a total of six times during that run. 

Benoit was selected as the AFLAC Southeastern Region Assistant Coach of the Year in 2002.

In 2005, he took over as head coach, promptly winning a state title and leading the Sharks to another runner-up finish at the national championships. 

Benoit hasn’t slowed down since, continuing to dedicate countless hours, both coaching on the floor as well as coordinating recruiting efforts for the Sharks. 

Originally from the Dominican Republic, Benoit has had a tremendous influence on MDC’s numerous international standouts, helping those student-athletes acclimate to life in the United States. 

A 1990 graduate of American Senior High School, Benoit graduated from MDC and earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in General Education, with a minor in Psychology, from Columbia College (Missouri). 

Benoit is married to Olga, a former All-American setter at MDC and at Columbia College (Missouri). They have a beautiful daughter, Angeline Benoit.
