Sophomore Cheah Rael Whitsitt was named the 2018 Southern Conference Player of the Year this week. This season Rael Whitsitt has taken her play to another level. The 2018 1st Team All-Southern Conference recepient has averaged 16.6 ppg, 14.2 rpg, and 2.4 apg. Rael-Whitsitt is currently ranked second in the nation in total rebounds and third in rebounds per game.
Earlier this month, Rael Whitsitt was named the NJCAA Division 1 Women's Basketball Player of the Week and the NJCAA Region 8 Player of the Week. This is the third time this season Rael Whitsitt has been named the Region 8 POTW.
The Ann Arbor native has been an important component to the Lady Sharks' success this season. Rael Whitsitt has helped her team finish their regular season 22-8 overall, 11-1 in conference play and clinch a berth to the 2018 FCSAA State Basketball Tournament. She and her teammates will travel to Ocala, FL next week to compete in the state tournament. The tournament begins on Wednesday, February 7, 2018.
After the tournament Rael Whitsitt will decide on which university she will attend and play for.
