Women's Basketball Crowned as Southern Conference Champs

The Miami Dade College women's basketball team hosted ASA College on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 for Sophomore Night. The Lady Sharks defeated the Silver Storm 108-50. With this win, the Lady Sharks are now 21-8 and 10-1 in conference play. In addition, the Lady Sharks are the 2017-18 Southern Conference Champions. This is a feat that hasn't been reached in ten years. Also sophomore Cheah Rael Whitsitt was named the NJCAA Division 1 Women's Basketball Player of the Week and the NJCAA Region 8 Player of the Week. Rael-Whitsitt is currently ranked second in the nation in total rebounds and third in rebounds per game. Rael-Whitsitt's teammate Savannah Clark also has pretty impressive national rankings. Clark is ranked fifth in field goals and seventh in points scored. The Lady Sharks will close out their regular season away at Broward College today Saturday, February 24, 2018 at 2 P. M. Afterwards, the Lady Sharks will prepare for a week before they head to Ocala, FL to compete in the 2018 FCSAA Basketball State Tournament. This will be the first time the Miami Dade College women's basketball team will make a state tournament appearance in three years.
