Sharks fall after late comeback from Indian River

The Miami Dade Sharks baseball team lost to Indian River State 6-5 in the rubbermatch Saturday afternoon. The Sharks move to 24-21 with the loss.

The Sharks got on the board first in this one after D'Angelo Ortiz drove in a run in the first inning. The Pioneers then answered back in the fourth inning after RBI singles.

The Sharks then jumped back into the lead in the top of the eighth inning after Dean Guzman singled and Maikol Perez doubled, each bringing in two runs.

With the score at 5-4 in the bottom of the eighth, Jassiel Valbuena would single to give the Pioneers the lead late in the ballgame. Those RBI's would eventually prove to be the winning runs.

Luis Rodriguez got the start for the Sharks in today's matchup as he would go three innings, allowing four hits and two runs while striking out two. Horacio Cruz would come in relief and pitch four innings, allowing five hits and one earned while striking out three. Pazos would be credited with the loss as he tossed a third of an inning and allowing three runs. Brandon Vazquez on the other hand would toss two thirds of an inning, just allowing one hit.

Miami Dade will look to take care of business next week when the Florida Southwestern Buccaneers roll into town. The game is scheduled for Thursday, April 18th at 3 PM.
