Sharks edge out Falcons by 1

The Miami Dade Sharks baseball team topped Daytona State College 2-1 on Wednesday after taking the lead late in the game. The Sharks move to 21-18 and 14-8 in conference.

The Sharks scored the first run in the ballgame after Michael Petite drew a walk with the bases loaded in the third inning. Connor O'Sullivan singled in the bottom of the third to tie the game at 1 apiece.

In the top of the sixth, Carlos Jacome hit a sacrifice fly to put the Sharks on top.

The pitching was spectacular on both sides with the Falcons striking out 8 and Miami Dade striking out 13. Enrique Sierra toed the slab for the Sharks tossing four and two-thirds innings, striking out six and walking three. Brandon Vasquez came in relief and earned the victory throwing two and two-thirds, striking out three and walking one. Horacio Cruz would get the save, tossing the last two innings of the game, allowing one hit and striking out four Falcons.

The Sharks will look to win Games 2 and 3 this Saturday when the Falcons travel down to Miami. The games are scheduled for 12 and 3 PM.
