Miami Dade holds on to victory as the Pirates almost erase 6 run deficit

Despite seeing their 6 run lead dwindle down by the end, Miami Dade College held off Chattahooche Valley. Both offenses were strong at the plate as Miami Dade collected 11 hits and the Pirates got six in this high scoring affair.

 

Miami Dade got on the board in the top of the first after Ortiz singled and Keanu Rodriguez hit a sac fly.

 

Meyer answered back in the bottom of the first with a solo shot to make the score 2-1.

 

A single by Maikol Perez extended the Sharks lead to 3-1 in the top of the second inning.

 

Geremy Garcia and Luis Munoz extended their early lead by driving in two runs in the top of the third inning.

 

The Pirates tied the game up in the bottom of the fifth thanks to a double by Meyer and a single by Johndeer.

 

In the top of the seventh, Miami Dade broke up the tie when David Zamora singled, scoring one run. Then a ground out by Michael Petite followed to extend the lead to 9-7.

 

Luis Rodriguez earned the win for the Sharks. He surrendered one hit and zero runs over 1 and two thirds' innings. Horacio Cruz took the bump in this one for the Sharks tossing 3 innings only allowing 1 run and striking out 3. Hilton got the start for the Pirates giving up 7 hits and 5 runs over 2 and 2 thirds' innings.

 

The Sharks will continue their ventures at the PCB Baseball Classic when they take on Meridian Community College at 5:30 today.
