Four MDC Baseball Players Find Homes at the Division-1 Level

After making an FCSAA State Baseball Tournament appearance, having several players receive conference and state honors, and finishing the season 34-17 and 20-8 in conference play; MDC Baseball is closing this season's chapter by sending several players off to 4-year colleges and universities. 

During the 2017 season, several players on the Sharks roster began drawing interest form numerous colleges and universities. As the Sharks continued to excel on the field throughout the season, the list of interested schools grew.

By the time, the Sharks were in Lakeland, FL competing in the 2017 FCSAA State Baseball Tournament, four players on Head Coach Danny Price's roster signed their NLIs to their respective schools.  

Pitcher Alex Valverde signed his national letter of intent with the University of Alabama. In his lone season with the Sharks, Valverde had an ERA of 1.80, 92 strikeouts, and an 8-1 win-loss record in 85.0 innings pitched.

Eddy Demurias, another pitcher, signed his NLI with the University of South Carolina. Demurias, a transfer from the University of Florida won several games for the Sharks. The 6' foot pitcher had an ERA of 1.86, 47 strikeouts, and a 7-4 win-loss record in 48.1 innings pitched.

Second baseman Bruce Martin, signed his NLI with Stetson University. Although Martin played sparingly, the sophomore had a batting average of .304 and a slugging average of .348.

Utility guy Raul Cabrera signed his NLI with Marshall University. During the season, Cabrera was heavily relied upon as a Designated Hitter.  In that role, Cabrera had 32 runs, 43 hits, a batting average of .336, and a slugging average of .484.
