MDC Baseball Hungry for First

 MDC Baseball is performing well this season. They are currently 24-11 and 13-5 in conference play. The Sharks, second in conference, are in the last stretch of the season vying to qualify for states. They trust one another and depend on one another to succeed.

The Sharks have a 3-2 record in the last five games. Starting with a 6-3 loss to Palm Beach State College, MDC went on a 3 game winning streak against Broward College (twice) and Indian River State College. After, playing against IRSC at home the Sharks traveled to Fort Pierce, FL to play the Pioneers and lost 6-3.

Several players have attributed to the recent play of the Sharks. Catcher Danny Mondejar has played in 34 games and has a batting average of .341, 4 HR, and 40 RBIs. In the month of March, Mondejar played 15 games and batted .377, 3 HR, and 2 RBIs. Pitcher Eddy Demurias has appeared in 12 games and has a 4-3 (W-L) record, 30.1 IP, 30 K and an ERA of 1.48. Last month, Demurias appeared in 7 games and had a 4-1 (W-L) record, 20.1 IP, 19 K, and an ERA of 1.31. Short stop Jose Rojas has played in 33 games and has a batting average of .296, 2 HR, and 20 RBI. In the month of March, he had a batting average of .288, 1 HR, and 10 RBI in 15 games. Finally, pitcher Alex Valverde has a 5-0 (W-L) record appearing in 10 games (6 starts) with 53.0 IP, 45 K, and an ERA of 1.53. During March, he pitched 4 games (1 start) 26.0 IP, 15 K, and an ERA of 1.38.

The Sharks have 13 more conference games left this season: six home and seven away. The opportunity to win the Southern Conference is still in the Sharks reach. MDC's next home game will be Saturday, April 4, 2017 versus Palm Beach State College at 2PM.
